Waxing Tips

  • Allow 2 weeks of hair growth (1/4-1/2 inch). The wax needs something to hold onto! If hair is too short, more tweezing is involved. If hair is too long, the wax can tug and pull, causing more pain than necessary.
  • Prep the skin with a sugar or salt scrub the day before to help loosen the hair from the follicle for an easier wax.
  • Shower before a wax. Clean skin prevents infection. But try to avoid heavy creams or lotions on the area being waxed.
  • Take an anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen, half an hour before your wax to ease discomfort. Avoid aspirin or any other medication containing blood thinning properties.
  • Avoid caffeine as much as possible on the day of your service. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and can increase blood flow and sensitivity.
  • Please let us know if you are using Retin-A, Renova, Accutane, or any other skin care product containing AHA's, or if you've had a peel or invasive facial treatment lately.
  • Relax...and breathe. We promise, it helps.

  • Don't be embarrassed. Like your doctor, We've seen it all, and do this everyday. We will do our best to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Don't schedule your appointment a week before or during your period. Your body is more sensitive at that time, and any discomfort will be heightened.
  • Don't tan 24 hours before (or after) a wax.
  • Never wax a new area for the first time before a big event! You never know how your skin will react or how long you will be sensitive. You wouldn't want to spoil an important day!

waxing after care

  • Avoid tanning at least 24 hours. Recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation...and sunburn!
  • Avoid hot tubs, pools, saunas, and heavy exercise for 24 hours. While your pores are open, they are more vulnerable to irritation.
  • Start exfoliating 2-3 days after a wax with a sugar or salt scrub. We carry LaLicious sugar scrubs that would be perfect for this. 2-3 times per week is sufficient and will help to prevent ingrown hairs or irritation.
  • Don't shave between waxes! This makes the hair more resistant to future waxing.
