Four Flawlessly Pretty Spring Makeup Looks
Aveda makeup guru Janell Geason gets you ready for a season of beautiful color
“The color trend right now is to energize barely-there makeup looks with vivid moments of color,” says Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup, about spring’s beautiful colors that combine luminous pastels with super vibrant shades. “We’re pairing ochre-based pale tones with almost neon pinks for a polished and chic approach to makeup that’s perfect for spring.”
Here, Janell shares the season’s must-have looks:
Look # 1: Blossom and Bloom
“Turn your lips into fresh bouquets by layering neon pinks with pale oranges. The rest of the face is demure with subtle nuances of sheens on lids and a tinge of apricot on the apples of the cheeks. This keeps the focal point on a pretty spring pout.”
Eyes: Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Illumination Cheeks: Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Apricot Whisper Lips: Nourish-mint™ Lip Liner in Spring Rose and Nourish-mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Pink Peppertree.
Look #2: Lighten Up
“Fresh skin is in with this look. Enhance your complexion with opaque tones reminiscent of creamy, exotic summer drinks. These shades create a beautifully rich and smooth finish on skin and is a nice contrast to the season’s otherwise vivid tones.”
Eyes: Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Peach Nectar and Lilac Glow, and Petal Essence™ Single Eye Definer in Cacao Cheeks: Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Peach Lights Lips: Nourish-mint™ Lip Liner in Spring Rose, Lip Shine in Golden Prism, and Uruku Color Gloss in Luna.
Look #3: Mix and Match
“Marry matte with glossy textures and use unexpected colors on the eyes to coordinate with lips. This creates fresh and new mash-ups of color. For example, I love combining glossy bright red lips with matte, lavender shades on lids.”
Eyes: Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Amethyst Dawn and Petal Essence™ Single Eye Definer in Black Orchid Cheeks: Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Plum Touch Lips: Nourish-mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Poppy and Nourish-mint™ Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Cherry Nectar.
Look #4: Be Bold and Carefree
“I call this look, ‘imperfect color blocking’. Try applying irregular chunks of turquoise on eyes and deep violet on the lower lash line. The idea is to look like you’re having too much fun outside to create a perfect makeup application.”
Eyes: Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Aqua Pearl and Petal Essence™ Single Eye Definer in Sea Fern and Violet Blossom, set with Inner Light™ Mineral Loose Powder in Translucent Cheeks: Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Peach Lights Lips: Lip Saver™ and Nourish-mint™ Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Agave Nectar.
